We caught up with Dual Olympic Swimmer and SunSense Healthy Skin Ambassador, Belinda Hocking to find out her top tips for keeping her skin in optimum condition ahead of her journey to Rio.
As a Dual Olympic Swimmer, how often do you train? I swim 9 times a week, 2 hours per session, so at least 18 hours each week, more if we are competing on the weekends.
How much out-of-water training do you do? I do 5 gym sessions a week, and they go for 2 hours each. They include both lifting weights and cardio. Sometimes I mix it up and head outdoors to train – I always pack SunSense Sport SPF 50+ in my training bag for these sessions and it””s four hour water resistant so perfect if we are training in an outdoor pool.
What do you like to do when you get some time off? I love to catch up on sleep, read books, play with my lagotto puppy Milo and meet up with friends.
What is your number one beauty tip? Wear Sunscreen every day, your skin and health will thank you in later years. Also, I have to moisturise every day – I find it””s best to do this within three minutes of hopping out of the shower or bath to lock the moisture into the skin, I use QV Skin Lotion.
What does sun protection mean to you? It means everything; it””s very important and is such an easy thing to do – put sunscreen on before you go outside. I have seen firsthand what the sun can do to your skin, so I””m very vigilant when it comes to sun protection.
Do you see yourself as a role model to young Australians? I like to think that I can inspire young people — especially people from the country. I would like to think that they can see me and everything that I have achieved, and for them to know that anything is possible if you work hard anyone can make their dreams and goals a reality. I like to go back to the town I grew up in, Wangaratta, as often as I can and talk to and inspire the young kids – if you put your mind and heart towards anything, then nothing is impossible.
What is your everyday makeup routine like? I don””t like wearing a lot of makeup, so I tend to use a tinted moisturiser like SunSense Daily Face SPF 50+ to help protect my skin.
What does healthy skin mean to you? It means putting the right products on my skin that are gentle yet moisturising. The SunSense and QV range of products are all free from common irritants including fragrance and colour so I know they are good for my skin.
