SUNSENSE SKIN TIPS

Why Wear Sunscreen Everyday
Everyday, no matter how careful we are, we are exposed to sunlight. While a certain amount of sunlight is good for us as it regulates our body clock, elevates our mood and helps our body produce vitamin D, too much sunlight can be damaging to our skin.

Too much sunlight can lead to sunburn, the development of premature ageing and wrinkling; and can lead to skin cancers. So how much sunlight is safe? As yet we don’t know. What we do know is that sun damage is cumulative, which means every little bit adds up over time.

To best protect your skin from sun damage it is essential to wear sunscreen everyday, not just when you go on holidays. This is important for men, women and children.

Apply 1 teaspoon per limb at least 15 minutes before going outdoors. Be sure to apply evenly, use mirror when applying to the face and be sure not to miss any exposed areas. A 250mL bottle of sunscreen should only last about seven body applications.

It is important to use a high quality SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen in conjunction with protective clothing, hats and eyewear, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

With 80% of all skin damage occurring before we are 18 years old, it is vital that children and teens are protected just as we would protect ourselves.
