Face it. You need to use a facial sunscreen everyday.

UV radiation speeds up the ageing process and is the primary cause of early wrinkling. You need to protect your skin and help shut out the sun’s harmful rays with a broad spectrum sunscreen, one that offers protection from both UVA and UVB rays.

Now if you’ve been stuck with a decision on what facial sunscreen to use, then you should know that everyone's facial skin is different and no single product will suit everybody. Good products, however, will have some common features.

When you are choosing a facial sunscreen, look for something that offers broad spectrum protection. We know that sunlight damages the skin and is the major cause of wrinkles and other signs of ageing. Your face is consistently exposed to more sunlight than any other part of your body, and this is why we find facial sunscreens now containing moisturising ingredients, so you can moisturise and protect at the same time. Applying your facial sunscreen daily, before applying makeup, will give you daily protection. It is also important to choose a product with broad spectrum protection that gives a sun protection factor (SPF) rating of 30+. For continual protection, reapply every 2 hours.

SUNSENSE Daily Face SPF 30+ is ideal for everyday use on the face and neck. The light, soft cream has an oil free base and is tinted for a sheer matt finish that is suitable for use under make-up.

You might also want some anti-ageing properties in your facial sunscreen. Ingredients such as vitamins, especially vitamins B3 and E, and alpha hydroxy acids or AHAs, help minimise the appearance of fine lines to give the skin a smoother appearance. AHAs rejuvenate the skin by encouraging the shedding of old, sun-damaged surface skin cells.1 Many of the best consumer anti-ageing facial sunscreen brands include some or all of these ingredients.

SUNSENSE Anti-Ageing Face SPF 30+ or SUNSENSE Anti-Ageing Matte SPF 30+ are designed specifically to help combat premature ageing due to sun exposure. The combination of the anti-ageing benefits of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), vitamins E and B3, with SPF 30+ protection, leaves your skin feeling fresh and youthful.

The facial sunscreen that will be most suited for you will depend on your specific needs. If you are not noticing the effects of aging too much yet, and are taking a preventative approach, you will probably select a different product from the person who has specific issues to address.

SUNSENSE Face Milk SPF 30+ is suitable for the neck and face. This light moisturising sunscreen has a non-greasy formulation and is broad spectrum SPF 30+. It is also suitable for dry skin due to its moisturising base.

Read labels and instructions to determine what products are supposed to do, and if you are still unsure of which is the best consumer anti-ageing face care product for you, consult a skincare professional for advice.
